About this guide
This guide contains a number of screenshot snippets that show the Hastings Line iPhone app in use
To see the whole screenshot, hover over the snippet on your desktop computer touch and hold down on your mobile device

Select a station
Select a station to show its departure or arrival board
There are several different ways that you can select a Hastings Line station
Method 1 Select your nearest station
Open the selection panel by clicking on tapping the train icon, top left of the iPhone screen
Method 2 Select station from list
Open the selection panel
Open the station picker by clicking on tapping the button that shows name of your current station
Method 3 Select station on a map
Open the selection panel
Open the map of Hastings Line stations by clicking on tapping the map button
Find your station on the map, then click on tap the station symbol to show a pop-up on the map
Click on Tap the check mark (tick) icon to select your station
Method 4 Select the next station up or down
As well as clicking on tapping the station name at the top of the screen, you can also drag swipe
the station name leftwards to select the next station up the Hastings Line (toward London) or rightwards to select the next station down the line (toward Hastings)
Method 5 Select a Hastings Line station on the service page
When viewing details of a train service, you can click on tap a Hastings Line station to show departures or arrivals from that station
Method 6 Specify your favourite station in Settings
If you regularly commute from the same station, you can set that as your favourite station in the iPhone Settings app
From your iPhone home screen, open the Settings App, scroll down to Hastings Line, then under Hastings Line Settings,
click on tap App Settings then Favourite Station and
select your station from the list

Show departure or arrival board
Open the selection panel by clicking on tapping the train icon, top left of the iPhone screen and select your station
A departures board shows train departures from your selected station up to four hours from the time of your enquiry
The departures board lists scheduled or expected departure times from the station.
It shows the platform number, when that has been advertised, and the number of carriages. If the train is running late,
the number of minutes delay is highlighted
Bus replacement services are indicated by a blue bus symbol
Cancelled services are highlighted in red
An arrivals board shows train arrivals at your selected station up to four hours from the time of your enquiry. On an arrivals board, station names are prefixed by "from"
The arrivals board lists scheduled or expected arrival times at the station.
It shows the platform number, when that has been advertised, and the number of carriages. If the train is running late,
the number of minutes delay is highlighted
You can also specify whether to show "up" trains toward London, "down" trains toward Hastings, or both directions
by clicking on tapping the up, down or bi-directional arrow symbol
For some stations that serve other routes as well as the Hastings Line, you can specify whether to show only Hastings Line trains or all routes serving that station.
You can also specify whether to only show Southeastern services or to include other rail operators

Show a train service
Click on Tap a service on a departure or arrivals board to see the progress of that service
The operator of the service, origin and destination stations are shown at the top of your screen
Stations that the service has already called at are shown with a solid blue circle symbol, the actual time and if not on time, the number of minutes delay
Stations that the service has not yet called at are shown with an outline blue circle symbol, the scheduled time, and if not on time, the expected time
and the number of minutes delay
Your selected station is highlighted in blue

Get directions to a station
You need to allow the Hastings Line app to access your location. If you didn't already
do so, open the iPhone Settings app, scroll down to Hastings Line and give Location permission
Your current location is shown on the map and a pop-up for your nearest station shows drive time from your location to the station.
If you are within walking distance of the station, you can also see walking time
To see travel times for any other Hastings Line station, click on tap the station symbol to show a pop-up on the map
To get travel directions, click on the motor car symbol. This takes you into Apple Maps where you can select different modes of transport and routes to the station.
To return to the Hastings Line app, click on tap ◀ Hastings Line in the upper left of your screen

Follow a train service on Apple Maps
You can see which stations a Hastings Line train service has called at on Apple Maps, as well as the expected or actual time at each station
Firstly, show the train service as described above
Then click on tap the map symbol at the top of your screen
On the map, you can click on tap a station to see the expected or actual time that the train serves the station

Follow your rail journey on Apple Maps
If you are currently on the train service that you have selected, you can see your current location on the map
Show the train service that you are currently travelling on, as described above
Then click on tap the map symbol at the top of your screen
The orange symbol shows your current location on the map. You will only see this symbol if you are travelling on a Hastings Line train
Tap the orange symbol to see the arrival time at the next station stop

Set a reminder before arriving at a station
It can be useful to set an Apple Reminder before your train arrives at a station so that you can be ready to leave the train
Apple Reminders can be displayed on all your online Apple devices including iPhone and Apple Watch
Follow your rail journey on Apple Maps, as described above
Click on Tap the station symbol that you want to be reminded about
Then click on tap the alarm symbol in the station pop-up
You can select how many minutes before arrival you want the reminder to be displayed
Apple Reminders will show a notification before arrival on all your connected Apple devices, such as your Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad and Macbook
You need to allow the Hastings Line app to access your reminders. If you didn't already
do so, open the iPhone Settings app, scroll down to Hastings Line and allow Hastings Line to access Reminders
